It all started with an event called ‘Seductive Stylez’ @ Doornroosje, Nijmegen. Followed by being the first Starbeach DJ Contest Winner in 2010, resulted in playing 100+ gigs in clubs and on festivals across The Netherlands before becoming the Winner of the SlamFM x PepsiKickInTheMix Remix contest for Calvin Harris ft. NE-YO – Let’s Go that caused me to go on a Dreamtrip to Ibiza in 2012. It all went very fast, and after all these years of ‘dreams coming true’, it was time for reflection.
I decided to stop playing by the name of ‘Silky Bastard’ and start over with a different name, a name that was still unknown for me at this point. The personal aspect and the growing ‘fame’ around ‘Silky Bastard’ was not what I was pursuing being a music producer and performing artist. This meant it was time to start digging deeper into the meaning of the dreams I was pursuing and where I’m heading with all of this. Through the eyes of societies expectations at that time I was already on ‘the right path’ in becoming successful from the age of 15 but actually I was just starting to lose myself more and more..
FACK IT became the breakthrough. The breakthrough in letting go of societies expectations and actually taking the time to elaborate on what I want to do, and how I want to do it. I needed to change my artist name in order to continue this electronic music journey; a name that complements the vision of universality over personality. This happened in 2015, about a year after stopping a successful and strong growing DJ career as ‘Silky Bastard’. After changing my artist name to ONEDEFINED, Fack It continued to grow as a worldwide brand. Besides events it flourished into a record label with an official techno inspired clothing brand upon followers recommendation.
Freedom is really the guiding principle here. The freedom to do what you want regardless of the opinions and circumstances within but not limited to societies, family members, friends, colleagues and whatsoever. Fack It has proven to me it contains the power to live beyond all these mental boundaries, being able to focus on what one actually came here to do; make music.
Thank you for reading this, you are probably one of the very few people on this planet alive knowing about the background story of ONEDEFINED and I salute you. Keep doing what you do, fack it all.
