WHAT HAPPENED
Started with a notorious school-party @ Doornroosje, Nijmegen. Winning the first Starbeach DJ Contest in 2010 live on TMF, doing over 100 shows in clubs and festivals and winning the SlamFM x Pepsi “Kick In The Mix” Producer Contest for ‘Calvin Harris ft. NE-YO – Let’s Go’ out of 20.000 contestants going on a Dreamtrip to IBIZA.
It all went very fast from a young age and after years of pursuing dreams coming true I took time for reflection..
In 2014 I decided to stop playing as Silky Bastard and start over with a different name, a name that was still unknown at this point. The superficial aspect that came with the adventure was not what I was pursuing in making and playing electronic music. It forced me as ‘an artist’ to dig deeper into the meaning of the egoistic dreams I was pursuing that became reality quick, where was all of this heading to and why?
Through the eyes of my surroundings I was doing great, just needed to keep going to win even bigger in life, but it didn’t felt that way for me. I was actually starting to lose myself more and more not feeling well at all and it was very hard to break from that when your closest ones are not reflecting back your soul purpose and true feelings.
TECHNO shook me and FACK IT opened my eyes. It was the breakthrough in letting go of societies expectations and really take time to elaborate on what I want to do, and how I wanted to do it. Needed to change name to continue the journey; a name that complements the vision of universality as a long-term project over a ‘wicked’ personality for a short-term run. After changing the name to ONEDEFINED, Fack It continued to grow as a mindset, a vision, a record label, a clothing brand, an open source podcast series and a worldwide brand with a global online community.
FREEDOM is really the guiding principle. The freedom to do what you want in creating and playing music, regardless of the opinions and circumstances of society, family members, friends, colleagues, whatever. Fack It contains the power to live like that, to live beyond mental boundaries, being able to focus on what you really came to do here.
